Eurostar has confirmed an order for new double-decker trains, although their use on the London-Paris route is uncertain.
The order includes 30 new trains from French manufacturer Alstom, with an option for 20 more. The Alstom Avelia Horizon trains are 200m long and feature two decks.
According to Eurostar's chief executive, Gwendoline Cazenave,
she was "particularly proud to bring double-decker trains to the UK for the very first time", adding they would bring "exceptional comfort".
Eurostar carried 19.5 million passengers last year. The new trains will be a first for UK railways, with the exception of a brief experiment in 1949.
