A new documentary film, "Preserved," delves into the history and conservation work at Ted Turner's Vermejo Reserve, spanning 560,000 acres in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado.
The Vermejo Reserve, purchased by Ted Turner in 1996, encompasses miles of wilderness, ranchland, and former coal mines, extending over the state line into Colorado.
"What's really unique is how many ecosystems it crosses,"
said Lance Bernal, the reserve's natural resources manager, in the film. The reserve's diverse ecosystems range from short grass prairie at 6,000 feet to alpine above timber line, close to 13,000 feet.
